NHLNumbers Logo Contest Entries

Just over a week ago we announced a contest to design a new NHLNumbers logo. And aside from those designers who castigated us for soliciting spec work or something, the response was fairly positive. We received a number of excellent entries which we have been poring over with serious minds and profound thoughts.
It's too difficult a decision for us, I think, so we'd like reader impressions as well. We'll forgo the easily skew-able web poll in favor of yays or nays in the comments. Share your thoughts and we'll pick the winner from the finalists by the end of the day.
Thanks again to to everyone who participated.
First up we have what was obviously the strongest submission -

Luckily it was from Nations Network owner Wanye Gretz who was therefore ineligible to enter. Nevertheless, he clearly set a pretty high bar.
Following in no particular order are the true potentials:
ENTRY A

ENTRY B

ENTRY C

ENTRY D

ENTRY E

ENTRY F

ENTRY G

ENTRY H

ENTRY I

ENTRY J

ENTRY K

So that's the field. Have at 'er folks.

Meow I am surprised that there is only one actual fist logo!
As I see it none of them really hit the true mark of The Nation Network representation.
I think Entry D is the stongest "logo" And Entry C is the closest to the Nation theme.
I would say combine the 2 ideas to come up with something like this...

just my 2 cents
I VOTE FOR THAT ONE!!

I AGREE WITH THIS GUY!!
Entry D.
My vote is for D. But I think Wayne's was probably the best
I like the first one, but it might be a bit too Backhand Shelf-ish. Entry D also very good.
Yeah, A and D for me.
.....i think that the thing i like best is that you'll end up with a totally professional branded logo for next to nothing. *smart*
My vote would be:
1. http://www.teamfist.com/nhlnumbers/
2. D
3. C
Ideally, if you could take option D and add the FIST, that would be be the best choice.
I second this one. That's got it all. I like C and D, but this takes the best of both and creates the best logo overall!
I like the new entry.. Definitely the lower pic with all the numbers in the blue area.
Looks a little too much like Oilers Nation with the Shape.. but it's cool.
Well done on the fly Lead Hands McLezy!

this one by far is the best
http://www.teamfist.com/nhlnumbers/ for me as well
The "new combined" logo entry is the perfect example of why you should hire a professional. It's a terrible idea. It's kinda like a Well endowed lady wearing a parka.
entry D is borderline perfection by itself.
I was surprised at the quality of that logo given the fact it's a contest open to anyone with a mouse and a bootleg photoshop. Its the real deal, guys.
Gotta say D all the way.. captures the website content. And yet has originality and style with panache.
D. It is what you are. Nice clean look.
Entry D is excellent!
Decisions are being made in the war room as well speak. Wanye keeps demanding we use his logo, but once we get him past that I thin we can announce a winner as early as tomorrow.
@Brownlee loves the word meow
I didn't design it, nor do I know the person who did, NOR did I enter the contest. But I am a designer and I know what I'm talking about.
NHL numbers is a site that can work on its own and has its own brand power potential. Don't confuse people by using the fist. The team sites can have fist logos because they are a family, a group of similar style sites. They work together. NHL numbers should exist on its own, it is a different niche.
That's my contribution to the contest which I believe is just as valuable as creating a logo entry in the first place.
I like the one with the fist. (Did I do it right?)
@Cam Charron
Nope. You'd have to capitalize FIST.
Entry I
I vote for all of the entries that have a fist.
I like either C or D. But D just a little more.
D for me.
I like B.
I think Entry D is the most professional looking. I did like entry I because it incorporates the fist, but would need to reworked a little. Say a FIST holding the paper and pencil inside the shield with NHL Numbers logo on the bottom of the shield or just underneath.
You guys sure would make a statement by choosing Wanye's.
I like B, because it's just so simple. Nice colors and doesn't take 3 seconds for my eyes to focus on.
G is neat as well, although the baby blue pants and gloves needs tweaking.
Entry C has my vote.
i think D is pretty rad, but i also think A is solid.
C and J
I"m sticking with the consensus, so as to make sure there is a consensus and not muddy the waters...
Entry D is the best!
Definitely D.
C
It fits in with the rest of the Nation branding.
A for me.
Wanye's entry is head and shoulders above the rest but because my knowledge of copywrite law is at a 1st grade equivalency, I vote C.
Entry D looks solid.
Entry C Entry A is a strong second!
Entry D
And FYI to those voting: C is the fist and D is the graph that morphs into a hockey stick blade.
In order of preference: D, I, J.
E is the best by far, D is too cartoony
Entry D and it isn't even close, D is a really for real pro logo. Works in all situations (web2.0).
I vote "J" for NHL Numbers.com logo
D is first choice followed by J
I really like C as well, although if you went with it I'd change the # as it just reminds me of hash-tags now.
@ Scottie
Yeah, I got excited when I saw everyone voting for D, which is my entry, but it appears most people are getting the labeling confused. D is the graph logo, C is the logo the fist (which is very good, by the way, and fits the theme of the Nation Network quite nicely).
As long as entry D wasn't one of the graphic designers who castigated you, I vote D or or A.
Yeah, just to clarify - the Entry label corresponds to the entry immediately below it.
Some really good work there all around. But I have to say entry D is a cut above the rest.
I like C the best but G looks like a young Eddie Giacomin, and thats a very good thing.
