Jarome Iginla Traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins

Kent Wilson

As has been speculated all night, Aaron Ward of TSN recently confirmed the Flames long time captain has been traded to the Bruins. The assumed return is Alex Khokhlachev, Matt Bartkowski and a first round pick. We will update with further confirmation and other news as it breaks.

For Kenneth AgostinoBen Hanowski and a first round pick.

Good luck in Pittsburgh Jarome. And thank you for everything. Go win that cup.

More to come...

Agostino, small LW, high "compete level" and plays in the dirty areas.

Hanowski, larger LW (6'2", 200lbs) with high degree of hockey intelligence and a good shot.

According to Hockey's Future.

I like this deal A LOT more than reported. I don't like Russian prospects. And the 1st is guaranteed albeit a very low one. I can't picture Pittsburg not winning the cup this year.

I'm amazed by Pittsburg. They are obviously going for broke. They must expect to see some major changes to the team really soon and want to make sure they get a cup before things change.

Could Feaster include that Pittsburgh 1st with Bouwmeester to try and get NHL-ready talent for next season in the 23-26 age range?

Firmly ahead of the next pick - 31st overall.

But Iggy's back on July 1, no?

If the pick is conditional, this surely has to be the end of Uncle Fester? Does this mean, at the very least, Baertschi will be called up for the rest of the "season?" Give him some icetime with Cervenka and Backlund and see what we have? According to Khochlachev's prospect biography, his favourite cartoon is Spongebob Squarepants and he likes eggs for breakfast, two of those intangibles that just can't be measured... argh...Iginla is going to be scary good in Boston, I'd wager (if he re-signs) he is good for 35 goals next year.

Looking on the TV tonight at Jaromes career stats I actually forgot how much he actually has done in Calgary as a player, quite impressive I might add and that doesn't include the extra fundraising charity etc. as well.I hope he resigns in Calgary when done in Boston to help the young crop after the veteran house cleaning here. Time will tell be faithful flames fans.

As an Oilers fan, I would seriously consider trading their two 2nds for that 1st. Even if it was 30th overall.

Kent, I see the deal as essentially Iggy for the 27th to 30th pick...the two college guys are window dressing. Everything now comes down to our scouting dept. making the most of the pick...oh God the humanity :)

The prospects are underwhelming, but at least they are better than nothing, and the 1st if firm. I'd rather this offer than Bostons, for a couple reasons.

1.) The pick is firm, and will probably get us the best player out of the prospects.

2.) Two Forwards > One, seriously the D thrown in the deal in the Boston deal was a throw in at best, and a small Russian forward isn't exactly something you throw the moon at, drafting isn't about just trying to select the best players, it's about drafting as much as possible as well, like what Florida did I believe, draft a whole lot of stuff and hope someone sticks.

3.) This is Iggys best chance at a cup, I'd rather take a slightly lesser deal to see him win.

Agostini's is a 5th rounder with a probability success rating of C on Hockey Future. Hankowski is a 3rd rounder also with a C rating. They got another owski, maybe they see things in these guys we don't.

@Kent Wilson

It seems they went with winger/centres, eastern seaboard based. One with size, one smaller. The HF site is sketchy, but gives a rough approximation as to expectations.

Based on what little I found, it would seem very likely that the Flames intend to leave these guys in school for the year and perhaps next season as well.

For their sake I hope so.

An advantage with these guys is they are older, perhaps closer to playing in the Show.

And the draft pick is not conditional.

And we get to see Crosby, Malkin, and Iggy on the same team. That makes my day.

Ray Shero played this masterfully! He gave up a first rounder, Joe Morrow and some nobodies for both Jarome Iginla and Brendan Morrow. First class GMing.
