Really turned a corner, and then crashed off the side of the highway. Lovely. Pathetic.

Can the Flames take a mulligan on this season?

Boy, that better be what's going on, cause if not, this team is really F'ed.

I no longer trust the Flames braintrust to do the right thing. I'm expecting a series of idiotic trades designed to get them back into the running, etc. Someone upstairs is in serious denial about where this team is and where it is going. Either that or they just don't care. Not sure which is worse honestly.

@suba steve @Stockley

I thought I would chime in with my thoughts, but after reading these last posts, it would just be rhetoric. Amen.

Any common sense management group would realize that we have ONE chance left to maybe, just maybe, pull off a quick re-build/re-load without Oiler pain.

As far as my confidence in management's abilities to pull off smart moves in the next three weeks.....I have absolutely none.

Every Flames fan knows what kind of state this team and organization have been in for years, but, to constantly hear Stock and Weekes berate Calgary, week after week just digs salt into an already open wound.

It's what needs to be said. Part of the problem is that Calgary fans have been too quiet about this big steaming pile of dog sh**. They keep supporting the team, and filling the building no matter how bad things get. It's just like the Leafs in the 90's. The building is full every night, so no reason to do anything different.

I'm glad these guys are making a joke out of the Flames, because they have BECOME a joke. Maybe making a laughing stock out of them will finally put enough pressure on them to actually DO something.

Terrible, the Flames got slaughtered this weekend. They are behind the Kings and Ducks in terms of talent by leaps and bounds.

Tanking like Edmonton and icing a team full of picks isn't the answer. The Oiler kids have a lot of skill and talent but their compete level and desire to win, mental toughness just isn't there. When the going gets tough, they seem to fold. I don't want a team like that.

Teams are smart they aren't going to trade away their good young players. Look at how fast Colorado match the offer sheet, they had 7 days and did it within mere hours. The Flames just have to keep drafting and improve their scouting.

Trading Iggy and Kipper is not going to yield you the return you may have gotten for them years ago. Look at the return in the Nash deal. You would probably get more for guys like Jay-Bo, Gio, Glencross, Stempniak, etc. This transition rebuild means a lot of short term pain for long term gains. In a few years, the hope is guys like Baertschi are leading the team with a slew of others. We just to have keep waiting and missing the playoffs until the Jankowskis, Gaudreaus, etc. are ready. I still think Barts should be on the top 2 lines, but if he isn't good enough send him back for top 3 AHL minutes. The Leafs were patient with Kadri and its paying big dividends now.

Sorry. I don't mean to suggest you are reading into 1 game. I think we forget how much contingency exists in sport. Last year a bounce or two and the Flames would have been in that 8th spot that LA ended up in. A little luck, a deep playoff run and all of sudden Flames mgmt. would have been geniuses for keeping the core together. In a league of incredible parity it's bound to be a crazy ride with lots of ups and downs. A few good bounces we'll be in the playoffs, a few bad ones we'll be at the bottom looking up ( and I'm stoked to see Seth Jones play tonight)

GlenX is injured? Can't find any info about that anywhere.

Why do people keep asking about Iginla? He's been offered extensions twice. He refused them. Recently, the Flames and him both said that they're waiting until the offseason to make a new deal (THIS IS CONFIRMED! HAS BEEN SAID!).

He's going to jump ship for nothing if they don't trade him NOW. NOW. Not in the offseason. No waiting at the trade deadline because "Flames are in 9th, if we just win this b2b against the Ducks, we can be in 8th". No. Trade Iginla. Trade Kipper. St Louis. Ty Rattie. First. Bag of f##king pucks. Whatever you can salvage now.

I didn't think of it till KW commented last night, but HNIC needs to get those guys off of that show. They don't come in prepared, offer no new insights or perspectives and fight the only professionals (McLean and Freidman) in the room for talk time.

All they did was pile on with uneducated, old narratives of the Flames. Not one credited how good the Standley Cup Champion was last night, or saw the game for what it was. Simply put, an elite team outplaying a bubble team.

What is you problem with the CBC crew? They pointed out that this Flames team is a disaster of a train wreck with no prospects, no future and no plan. If you can't take the truth you want to hire new people who give you a different truth? You may not like to hear it, but you'd have a hard time finding any analysts who disagreed with what PJ Stock says about the Flames. Terrible team, empty cupboards, complete denial.

This team is terrible, LA didn't play all that well, we just suck.

Did you see the clip after the game where Friedman showed Iggy on the bench looking completely done. He has checked out... I just pray that he realizes its time to ask for a trade. Its lame that they are letting Iggy decide the future of this organization. They should tell him he is done, not ask him.

I'll be the dissenting voice here. I don't think it's all so bad. We had a decent 4-1-1 "streak" broken on Friday in a frustrating game where we outplayed the 2nd best team in the league and lost. Less tha 24 later we had to play the resurgent Stanley Cup Champs and got destroyed. That's it. Things ebb and flow. Who knows in 2 weeks we may be fighting for #1 in our division or we may be scrapping with Oil for the basement. Not much to read in 1 game.

Best post ever on this blog!

Game just shows exactly what the Flames are. A .500 hockey team that dances around 8th spot but never has the push to get them over. Did Iggy ever get pushed around last night. Shoved to the ice a few times and the only thing he gave back was an icy stare towards the ref. That says it all. I thought the C meant Captain, not complain!

@meat1

The effort isn't there night-in, night-out. No consistency whatsoever. This team has been bailed out for years by Kipper being a well above average goalie. When he looks mortal, like he has this season, the Flames are revealed as the sad bunch of sucks they really are. Sure, they say all the right things in interviews; spouting off all those sports cliches we know and love. Then the minute things turn against them you see the long faces and they start playing like they're just going through the motions again.

This horse is dead. As dead as that third jersey with the fire-snorting horse on the front (a jersey I didn't hate as much as some people, but my point remains). Stop beating it and try something different.

I thought Hartley was making some difference in the early going. Last 10 games he's been making some decisions that leave me scratching my head. I know he's a cup-winning coach, has a winning pedigree, experience, etc... whereas I'm just a regular working stiff, but I don't understand what he's doing. If it turns out he and Jay are in cohoots and trying to make this team struggle so the clowns way upstairs finally give the green light to rebuild then it will all be some sort of diabolical genius. Sadly I don't think that's the case, this bunch still won't look in the mirror and admit this team is a lost cause.

Sorry I think the frustration stems from more than just 1 game. I can only say I have seen the same results for the last 4 seasons with pretty much the same core of players and it is not getting any better. Although I don't need reminding last night's game was no different from last year when they played Boston. The only difference was the score.

I don't buy all the venom at Feaster. He knew he had to start getting more assets in the cupboard and has started doing that. Lets not overlook what the Coach of LA did to Calgary. He mortgaged the future and got poor return on his assets (Phaneuf, Leopold, Ference, 1st round picks, keep going) and now you are seeing it. The only thing i disagree with feaster is throwing money at the problem and selling hope. I look forward to the draft.

There was that ominous feeling at puck drop that this was going to be an ugly game. Richards flips a long shot on Kipper from Calgary's side of center and it hits the post, the goal light goes on, but it is waved off as the replay showed that the puck rolled on edge, across the goal line and out the other side, hey, maybe luck might be on our side tonight. About 3 minutes later, Wideman walks around the LA defender, a wrists a gorgeous shot inside the post, only to be waved off because of goaltender interference, here we go. Calgary had back to back 5 on 3's and it was predictable as not once, not twice, but three times Cammalleri tried to feed Iginla cross crease and all three times shut down. With 11 minutes to go in the game, Calgary hadn't even mustered 20 shots on net. There was no pushback at all, could GlenX have made any difference? The post game interview, Iggy looks beaten, again, and tired of trying to find some semblance of balance and order, he finally has run out of answers.

How many times in the past have you seen Iggy get knocked down when he has basically been sleepwalking, and he gets up, dusts himself off and plays like a man possessed, last night, he just took it and as mentioned in another post, just glared at the ref, there is not only no pushback from the other players, there is no fight in the Captain, for this team left.

At this point, I don't know what kind of return this would yield. I said before this shortened season resumed, and last night, that there had to be a reason that Iggy did not re-up his expired contract. It may only be a matter of time now before he heads to the Eastern conference and to stay on par with what has already been said, Boston or Pittsburgh, as for Kip, I think that this is his final ride into the sunset, I think he stays put or retires at the end of the year.
