The top of the draft order is beginning to take shape.  The Southeast Division (which will no longer exist after the draft) is set to snag 3 of the top 5 picks and three Canadian teams might be drafting in the top 10.

The mock draft uses the NHLNumbers Predictive Model and the NHL Numbers Consensus Top 100 List for the picks.  The sources for the consensus list are Bob McKenzie, Future Considerations, ISS, Ryan Kennedy, Craig Button, Corey Pronman of Hockey Prospectus, and The Scouting Report.  Their rankings are weight by their accuracy in ranking previous drafts: Bob McKenzie's rankings carry the most weight as he's the most accurate prognosticator in the group.

Pick Team Selection Pos Current Team Ht, Wt
1 Florida Seth Jones D Portland Winterhawks 6'3, 215
2 Colorado Nathan MacKinnon F Halifax Moosehead 5'11, 180
3 Calgary Jonathan Drouin F Halifax Moosehead 5'11, 180
4 Carolina Aleksander Barkov F Tappara 6'2, 205
5 Tampa Bay Valeri Nichushkin F Chelyabinsk 6'4, 198
6 Nashville Elias Lindholm F Brynas 6', 183
7 Philadelphia Sean Monahan F Ottawa 67s 6'2, 180
8 Buffalo Darnell Nurse D Soo Greyhounds 6'4, 185
9 Edmonton Hunter Shinkaruk F Medicine Hat Tigers 5'10, 170
10 Winnipeg Rasmus Ristolainen D TPS Turku 6'3, 210
11 New Jersey Nikita Zadorov D London Knights 6'4, 225
12 Phoenix Ryan Pulock D Brandon Wheat Kings 6', 195
13 Columbus Adam Erne F Quebec Remparts 6', 200
14 Dallas Josh Morrissey D Prince Albert Raiders 6', 185
15 Detroit Max Domi F London Knights 5'9, 185
16 NY Islanders Curtis Lazar F Edmonton Oil Kings 6', 190
17 Columbus Anthony Mantha F Val - D'or 6'4, 180
18 Buffalo Frederik Gauthier F Rimouski Oceanic 6'1, 210
19 Ottawa Bo Horvat F London Knights 6', 195
20 San Jose Alexander Wennberg F Djurgarden 6'1, 174
21 Calgary Kerby Rychel F Windsor Spitfires 6'1, 185
22 Toronto Robert Hagg D MODO 6'2, 201
23 Columbus Andre Burakovsky F Malmo 6'1, 175
24 Boston Artturi Lehkonen F TPS Turku 5'10, 163
25 Washington Jason Dickinson F Guelph Storm 6'2, 179
26 Vancouver Morgan Klimchuk F Regina Pats 5'11, 174
27 Anaheim Steve Santini D USNT 6'3, 205
28 Montreal Valentin Zykov F Baie Comeau 6', 210
29 Calgary J.T. Compher F USNT 6', 170
30 Chicago Ryan Hartman F Plymouth Whalers 5'11, 185

Three teams have multiple picks in the first round:

  • Columbus gets Adam Erne with their own pick, Anthony Mantha with the Rangers pick, and Andre Burakovsky with the Kings pick.  That's quite the forward haul.
  • Calgary gets Jonathan Drouin with their own pick, Kirby Rychel with St. Louis' pick and J.T. Compher with the Penguins pick.
  • Buffalo gets Darnell Nurse with their own pick and Frederik Gauthier with the Wild's pick.

The draft makes sense through the early picks, but my guess is there's no way the Flyers pass on Darnell Nurse, leaving Sean Monahan for the Sabres.

It would also be difficult for the Oilers to pass on both Rasmus Ristolainen and Nikita Zadorov, leaving Hunter Shinkaruk for the Jets.

The Jets will be picking through a group of talented defensemen:  Nurse, Ristolainen, Zadorov, Ryan Pulock, and Josh Morrissey.

If St Louis finishes in a playoff position, does their first rounder not become Calgary's? As a result of the Bouwmeester trade? In which case, Calgary would be picking 21st overall?

I would rather Ryan Pulock for the Oilers, and considering the Oilers hard-on for WHL players, they probably do, too.

not a chance in hell the Oilers take Shinkaruk - unless they are totally incompetent. The only thing they DON'T need is a small skilled forward.

In the 2007/8 season, the Oilers had 3 smaller, skilled F's record 40+ points - Gagner, Nilsson, and Cogliano.

One could have argued they shouldn't draft a small skill guy if you were drafting based on need. They did anyways, and took Eberle.

Oilers will not draft Shinkaruk, he is a lot of what they already have. They will reach to draft Lazar, Mantha, Rasmus, Gauthier.

Shinkaruk is a smaller skilled peremiter player, he has high end skill but is scared to drive to the net.

He would be exceptional on a Pittsburgh, LA, Boston, or a Chicago team.

He will piss the fans off of the oilers he is Yakupov without the jam.

No way the Flyers don't draft a d-man. Their defence this year was horrendous. They need a blue chip d-man worse than anything. The fans would be pissed off and I swear I'll stop cheering for them because it will show they just don't get it. If the order stays the same and the picks are the way you have them then I would draft Pulock with that pick in a heartbeat. Rocket shot, point on the power play. Long term replacement for Timmonen.

Wow how things change in a week hey? The dream for the Oil (besides winning the lotto and grabbing Jones) is to pick high enough to get Barkov. I dont care if they take the 6th+ a second rounder to move up one or two spots to get him.

Would Edmonton trade with the Boston Bruins for a forward and their 1st round pick for Tuukka Rask.

@El Woppo Sauve

Do you think the Flyers would trade with Boston for Tuukka Rask and Horton for their 1st round pick in 2013 and Claude Giroux??? The best DMan would be the goalie and the Bruins have a slew of goaltenders that are NHL Ready right now...That trade is good for both teams...

Wow... If the Flyers did that trade they would be f-ng idiots. No way that ever happens. Here's a trade idea. The Oilers trade Linus Omark for Sidney Crosby. That trade is just as likely.
