The Leafs currently sit 23rd in the league with a 47.78% Fenwick and seem to have settled into the 47% range as a season average over the last few games. It's an improvement on the last couple of seasons and certainly makes their chances of getting into the playoffs better. But by how much?

We're 15 games into the season and we're starting to get a clearer picture of what kind of team the Leafs are. They sit in the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and have a record of 8-5-2. They have a Corsi of 47.52%. Guys like Phil Kessel and Leo Komarov have been awesome, while others like Stephane Robidas have not. For this article, I wanted to take a closer look at one small part of this Leafs team: how Randy Carlyle and the coaching staff are utilizing the players.

Since the Leafs hired away Extra Skater’s Darryl Metcalf, there have been plenty of new advanced stats websites popping up to help meet our every Corsi need. War On Ice is one such site, providing much of the same unique information that Extra Skater once did. Where War On Ice has Extra Skater and just about everyone else beat though, is that they actually provide fancy stats dating as far back as the 2002-2003 season.
