The Nation Network Notebook is a regular feature that rounds up interesting news, stories, and rumours from around the NHL that don’t quite deserve their own article. 

Silly season is about to begin. The Flames and Jets reportedly have interest in the Rangers' Antti Raanta. Teams have until 5 p.m. ET to ask a player with a NMC to waive for the upcoming expansion draft. There's too many rumours surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks potentially moving a core player.

In terms of both their success in the playoffs, and their success in getting rid of any assets of significant value who were going to walk at the deadline, the St. Louis Blues may have had the best season. While they aren't contending for a Cup anymore, they managed to go all the way to game six in the second round in a year where some anticipated a step back, and this was WITHOUT Kevin Shattenkirk, who they traded at the deadline in order to not risk losing him for nothing.

Looking forward, St. Louis is in a decent situation for a team like theirs, but it's certainly not perfect either, so let's dive into their cap situation and offseason plan.

The San Jose Sharks have a Jumbo decision to make this summer. Both Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau, the faces of the Sharks' franchise over the past decade, are set to hit unrestricted free agency in July. They're still productive players at 37 years of age, as Thornton and Marleau finished fourth and fifth respectively in team scoring last season, but after a first round playoff exit at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers, it's time to wonder if the Sharks should move into the future.
