The Western Conference second round series got underway yesterday, and we were reminded why you don't really, really want to play seven games before moving on. Both the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues, who took seven games to navigate out of the first round, looked pretty exhausted, resulting in the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars grabbing their first wins.

Dallas St. Louis could be a great name for a fictional character, or the name of Martin St. Louis' next kid.
But unfortunately, it's just the name of two teams meeting in the playoffs, as the Dallas Stars take on the St. Louis Blues in the Western Conference second round series.

There wasn't much hockey on last night, but there was no shortage of entertaining hockey, as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals faced off for the first time in these playoffs.
Also, the nominations for the Frank J. Selke were announced, and for the second consecutive day, fans were left puzzled by one of the nominees.
Finally, it's Friday, so kick back in your chair that you're supposed to be doing work in, relax, and let's take one last look at some interesting stats from the first round.

It’s kind of funny that the sixth and seventh placed teams in the Western Conference are playing each other in the second round while the first and second seeded teams are set to duke it out against each other, but whatever. This is a nice geographical rivalry, or something. Right?
There’s a decent chance that whoever wins this thing is going to get rolled by the Dallas Stars or St. Louis Blues in the Conference Finals, but hey, if I’m a fan of either team, I would take that over getting rolled by one of those teams in the second round!
Anyways, here we are now. The San Jose Sharks, fresh off pummelling the Los Angeles Kings in the first round in five games, and the Nashville Predators, who did their best to ensure that Bruce Boudreau doesn’t have a job next year after wiping out the Anaheim Ducks in seven games. While they may be sixth and seventh in the standings, these are two good teams, which should make for an entertaining, and difficult to predict series.
