There wasn't much hockey on last night, but there was no shortage of entertaining hockey, as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals faced off for the first time in these playoffs.

Also, the nominations for the Frank J. Selke were announced, and for the second consecutive day, fans were left puzzled by one of the nominees.

Finally, it's Friday, so kick back in your chair that you're supposed to be doing work in, relax, and let's take one last look at some interesting stats from the first round.

2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs Second Round Preview: San Jose Sharks vs. Nashville Predators

It’s kind of funny that the sixth and seventh placed teams in the Western Conference are playing each other in the second round while the first and second seeded teams are set to duke it out against each other, but whatever. This is a nice geographical rivalry, or something. Right?

There’s a decent chance that whoever wins this thing is going to get rolled by the Dallas Stars or St. Louis Blues in the Conference Finals, but hey, if I’m a fan of either team, I would take that over getting rolled by one of those teams in the second round!

Anyways, here we are now. The San Jose Sharks, fresh off pummelling the Los Angeles Kings in the first round in five games, and the Nashville Predators, who did their best to ensure that Bruce Boudreau doesn’t have a job next year after wiping out the Anaheim Ducks in seven games. While they may be sixth and seventh in the standings, these are two good teams, which should make for an entertaining, and difficult to predict series.

Sidney Crosby. Alex Ovechkin. Evgeni Malkin. Nicklas Backstrom. Phil Kessel. Evgeny Kuznetsov. It's a star-studded series in the East, as the long waited return of the Crosby vs. Ovechkin series commences tonight between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Capitals are looking to conquer their demons, and get past the second round for the first time since 1998, when they went to the Cup Finals and were swept by the Detroit Red Wings, while the Penguins also look to get over the hump and advance to the Conference Finals for only the second time since their 2009 Cup win (and make sure that first round pick in Toronto is as bad as possible). Without further ado, let's take an in-depth of this Conference Fin...I mean, Semifinals series.

2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs Second Round Preview: Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Islanders

I'll be honest, it would have been pretty cool to see a Battle of Florida series between the Panthers and Lightning for the first time ever, but I'm not going to complain about this one. The Islanders knocked off the Panthers in six games in a very, very tight series in which all of the games were decided by one goal (save for one with an empty netter) and three of them went to overtime. It was their first playoff series win since 1993, so this is some pretty unfamiliar territory for the Islanders. On the other hand, the Lightning hammered the Red Wings for the second year in a row, tossing them and their 25-year playoff streak aside in five games.
