How expensive are each of the four All-Star teams?

The 2016 NHL All-Star game has probably been the most controversial, but interesting midseason classic in recent memory. After realizing how boring the event has become over the years, the league decided to jump on the bandwagon of the success garnered from three-on-three overtime play and host a four-team tournament instead of a typical pond hockey game between the Eastern and Western Conferences. Then, of course, the fans voted John Scott to be the captain of the Pacific Division, and despite the league's best efforts to shove him out of the game, the enforcer prevailed.

This All-Star game has been somewhat of a black eye on the NHL largely because of the way they handled the Scott situation. Fans were furious and disturbed that the league appeared to be robbing everybody of what they had voted for, and after Scott published an article on The Players' Tribune, we were all offered an inside look at just how poorly he had been treated by the league throughout the whole situation. Anyways, with all that considered, this entire thing has actually been pretty interesting. The three-on-three, NHL HITZ style tournament (along with its $1 million prize) should be more exciting than the typical try-not-to-get-injured exhibition games we've grown tired of.

So what am I getting at here? Well, since this website is a salary cap resource, here are each of the four divisional All-Star teams cap hits heading into tonight's tournament.

The Good and Bad of the 2015 Offseason (Looking Back): Central Division

A few months ago, I looked at all of the moves each team had made over the offseason with the goal of figuring out which trades and signings were good and bad, and what each teams goals were and whether or not they did a good job of making personnel changes to achieve them. Now, since an adequate amount of time has passed, I'm going to pull those assessments up, throw on my hindsight goggles, and look back on the good and the bad moves from the 2015 offseason.

The Hawks executed another successful re-tool in the midst of sinking into cap hell, hitting a home run on undrafted Russian free agent Artemi Panarin. The Colorado Avalanche have brought Avsalytics back to life and are doing their best to defy statistics, and this time, it's probably even more puzzling than last. And the Dallas Stars attempt to become the Chicago Blackhawks last summer has helped turn them into a legitimate contender. Let's get into it.

The NHLE Calculator

Convenience is everything nowadays.

We want everything to be as centralized as possible – with apps, news, etc all in one place – and everything done for us to the largest possible extent. To that end, I’ve taken the initiative to simplify and centralize the very common calculation of a hockey player’s NHLE, by creating a calculator for it. To my knowledge, it’s the first of its kind that is publicly available (this determined by one Google search and quick scan of the results), but I could be wrong.

How does Aleksander Barkov's new contract impact Sean Monahan?

January 26 2016 12:00PM

The second overall pick out of the 2013 NHL Draft was signed to a six-year, $5.9 million AAV contract extension yesterday afternoon.
