The Nation Network isn't accustomed to playoff success. What else do you expect from a blog network based out of Edmonton?

We're experts in the draft lottery though, and we know a thing or two about playoff pools - particularly the Nation Drafts charity playoff pool that we run annually. With the second round of the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs already in full swing, let's take a moment, look back at round one, and check out the progress that the Nation Network's poolies are making in the competition!

2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs Conference Finals Preview: New York Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

I can’t say I’m surprised at all. The New York Rangers made easy work of the Penguins in the first round, then proceeded to steal their second round series from the Washington Capitals. Even when the Caps were up 3-1 in the series, it was nearly impossible to count the Rangers out. The Tampa Bay Lightning were almost on the wrong side of an epic collapse of their own, letting the Canadiens back into the series after going up 3-0.

Although their paths getting to this point have been a little unpredictable, these are the two teams that belong here. I don’t think this Eastern Conference Finals matchup comes as much of a surprise to anybody as the Rangers and Lightning really are the cream of the crop in the East. On one hand, you have last year’s Eastern Conference Champions and the President’s Trophy winners, and then you have the team who looks poised to become the league’s next powerhouse. Then you also have Martin St. Louis and Ryan Callahan facing their former teams in a playoff series, which is pretty cool.

Are the Rangers bound for another shot at their first Stanley Cup since 1994? Or are the Lightning ready to establish themselves as the team to beat in the East? Let’s take a look.

Peter Chiarelli

NHL teams getting compensated for rival clubs poaching their management members is not new, but similar issues are already arising since the last time they decided to get rid of this rule.

When the league moved away from compensating teams for hiring management personnel, it was because everyone felt this was restricting candidates from getting hired. A team would rather mine through the minor ranks and hire someone for free than give up assets to bring in someone at a price.

2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs Conference Finals Preview: Anaheim Ducks vs Chicago Blackhawks

The Ducks and Hawks are set to square off in the Minnesota State Division, uh, I mean, the Western Conference Finals. I apologize in advance for the Might Ducks movie references, but this is the first time the Anaheim Ducks and the Chicago Blackhawks have ever met in a playoff series, so it’s necessary to do so. The Hawks are pretty similar with the Conference Finals, as they’ve made it this far for the third year in a row, and for the fifth time in the last seven seasons. The Ducks, on the other hand, haven’t been this far in the playoffs since way back in 2007 when they beat the Red Wings and then went on to win their first ever Stanley Cup.

The Ducks have made it look pretty easy so far. Gordon Bombay, err, I mean, Bruce Boudreau’s squad has only lost one game so far throughout the first two rounds of playoffs, and they’re fresh off absolutely dominating the Flames in five games. The Hawks haven’t really had it too tough either, though.

Chicago was pretty much everyone’s favorite to come out of the West, but based on the way the Ducks have carved their way through the first two rounds, this could be a pretty interesting series. Anaheim hasn’t been challenged yet, so how will they fare against the toughest competition available?
